Fulbright Egypt visit to Cairo University

BFCE Visit to Cairo University, May 2026

14 May 2026 · Outreach

As part of its ongoing campus outreach across the country, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt visited the Faculty of Science at Cairo University this May — carrying the Fulbright Program directly to students and faculty at one of Egypt's oldest and most distinguished public universities.

The Fulbright Egypt team was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Soheir Ramadan, and the Vice Dean, Dr. Sahar Fadlallah. The meeting offered an opportunity to introduce the breadth of Fulbright exchange opportunities now open to Egyptian scientists, researchers and graduate students, and to explore how the Commission and the faculty might collaborate more closely in the years ahead.

The visit was coordinated by Fulbright alumnus Dr. Hany Mobasher, who helped bridge the Commission and the faculty, working alongside Dr. Nada Ezzat, the faculty's International Relations Coordinator. The involvement of an alumnus is characteristic of the Commission's outreach model: Fulbrighters who have returned to Egypt remain among the program's most effective ambassadors, opening doors on their home campuses and lending first-hand credibility to the experience.

Following the meeting with the faculty's leadership, the Commission held an information session open to students and academic staff. The session walked attendees through the range of Fulbright programs available for Egyptians — from Master's degree and PhD joint-supervision grants to visiting student researcher awards, professional fellowships and grants in the arts — along with practical guidance on eligibility, the application timeline and the kind of preparation that strengthens a competitive application.

Bringing Fulbright to campus, with an alumnus in the room, turns an abstract opportunity into something students can picture for themselves — and that is exactly how the network grows, one Fulbrighter at a time.

Campus visits such as this one are central to the Commission's mission of widening access to international academic exchange. By meeting students where they already study, the Commission ensures that the Fulbright opportunity reaches well beyond Cairo's best-connected circles and into the everyday life of Egypt's universities. The Faculty of Science visit forms part of a broader season of outreach in which the Fulbright team has travelled to public and national universities across the country.

Established in 1949 as the oldest and largest Fulbright program in the Arab world, the Commission continues to build relationships with Egyptian institutions one campus at a time — confident that each conversation plants a seed that may, in time, send another Egyptian scholar to the United States and bring their expertise home again.
